Addition of 4 more job categories
"Florence", the Information Desk lady would like to inform you that her Information Desk is being upgraded at the moment to include 4 new categories:
These changes will be ongoing and we hope that it will
make finding jobs easier for you and your students. These changes also align
more closely with those of JobOutlook, Open Universities and CareerHQ
categories. These additions will mean that some jobs in our previous 8 job
categories will come out of the old categories and go into the new ones.
There is also a change of name from Work around the House to "Houses and
Buildings"

A WQ about Zoos
This WebQuest or Rich Thinking Task was
initially created by the preservice teachers at the University of Richmond
and can only be found on the Web Archive. It was totally rewritten and
adapted for the Clemente Program ACU 2018 by Frances Moore and revised in
January 2021.
"Confirmation
bias. It’s enemy number one of all balanced and evidence-based debate. This
urge to believe what you’re already convinced of, regardless of the facts.
The solution is ‘critical thinking’ – the skill to discern emitted variables
and wrong causalities, to look at all sides of an issue.
And then to align your point of view with the evidence."

This is a Rich Task challenging students to design a survival pack for
families whose homes are under threat from fires. They are to decide which
items to take with them according to a limited budget.
Teacher:
Caution. Do not use this activity where fires have devastated communities.
Duration: 6 - 8 Lessons.

Scenario:
"You are a team of volunteers designing survival packs
for families whose homes are under threat from the fires.
You will be using a budget allocated to your team to create a survival pack.
All items selected must fit inside a 2x1m trailer.
Each family which your team is assigned to lives in a different area and has
their own needs.
You will need to be creative and show critical thinking (and your budgeting
skills) to determine which items will best support your family."

Call for students and teachers to be part of the Dead Tree Detective! Look at the Auditor to see the activity involved. This is a great way to intergrate Science and Mathematics into a real life project. The project is ongoing.
