The Process
This activity is used as an introductory activity for the whole class or for groups. It can be used for revision. Introduction
Snakes and Ladders is a common game from everyone's childhood, yet strangely
often gets overlooked or forgotten within the classroom. This is a shame,
because Snakes and Ladders is an excellent classroom tool for language
acquisition, memory, and revision. Playing Snakes and Ladders provides an
excellent platform for review work within a class of both younger or older
students.
Example On the Job - used in the Toxicologist.
Here it is..... Primary Middle Secondary Australian Curriculum General Capability: Critical and creative thinking Australian Curriculum General Capability: Literacy
1. You are to convert the
old game of Snakes and Ladders into a new and exciting game based on the
knowledge of Australian snakes. The game will still have die and played by
two people but with a difference - you also need to know a lot about
Australian snakes! Look at the following examples to get an idea of the number of Snakes and Ladders usually put onto the game. Be as creative as possible with your drawings of your snakes (eg. you might like to make them all look like Australian snakes!) As you can see from the following examples there are differences in the number and size of both the snakes and ladders. It is up to you to create your own unique game.
3. Rules: Use the instructions on the video to play the game. Variation: You can avoid slipping down the snake if you know the answer to one question about Australian snakes and you can go up the ladder if you know the answer to two questions about Australian snakes. Otherwise you are to stay where you are until the next throw and a new lot of questions. You can use virtual dice by going to https://freeonlinedice.com/ 4. Read the following websites and create a list of 20 questions [with answers]:
4. In turn, ask your question of the next person in your group [or your partner] and play the game until one person gets to the end of the board game.
