Critical & Creative Thinking Skills – Activity: Gruen: The Pitch
Introduction
The Pitch is a segment of the Gruen show where marketing companies are given the challenge of selling the impossible. The Pitch is one of Gruen‘s most popular segments, in which advertising agencies are tasked with making a convincing ad for diametrically opposed briefs. For example, The Pitch: All children should be sent to boarding school. Marketing Agencies are given around 6 weeks to complete their Pitch, and there is a behind-the-scenes dialogue with producers about which argument they will defend. But, you are clever and will be given ONE week to complete your Pitch. This activity on On the Job is used to highlight the creation of a humorous video on a particular topic. The Pitch can be used in most school subjects. The hardest part is coming up with a topic - which the teacher has to create.
