TeacherJust a Minute Learning Strategy.

Students:

1. In pairs, you are to come up with as many things in an amusement park as you can that make you feel

  • dizzy

  • sick

  • scared

  • relaxed

  • irritated

  • impatient

  • excited

  • thrilled (inspired by TEFLNET)

2. Select one ride. Describe in detail "How does this ride make you feel?" by answering the following questions:

  • How did you feel before going on the ride?
  • What did the ride look like?
  • Describe the ride mechanics
  • how big is your seat?
  • Do you feel safe? Why? Why not?
  • Did you scream?
  • What did your body feel like?

3. Share with your partner.

Did you feel any different to your partner? Did that surprise you?

4. View, as a class, the following Just a Minute episode [14 minutes in length - you do not need to view it all] to give you an idea of the instructions

5. Select a panel of 4 students and have the teacher as the chairperson.

One student is to start by answering the following question in a "Just a minute" presentation:

"
What is your favourite ride at an amusement park?"

If  this student does not obey the rules, then the teacher nominates the next student to take over from where the first student started. This continues until one minute has occurred.

6. As a class, create another 5 questions. Then, repeat the process until all students have had a go.

Discuss with a partner.

4. Work out what you are going to do to increase your steps to 10,000 per day.

Again, discuss with a partner and work out if it is feasible for you. What small measures could you do to increase your step count?

1. In groups of 4 - 5 students, talk about your experiences going on an amusement ride - from the circus rides, to the local swimming pool slides, to the full theme park rides.

  • What did you enjoy the most? Why?

  • Were you scared on any of them? Would you go back if you had the chance?

  • Who were you with? Did they enjoy the rides or were they scared?

2. Read the following article from The Conversation 3 January 2018 Reading
