Activity: Build Your Own Weather Station Middle Secondary Australian Curriculum General Capability: Numeracy Australian Curriculum General CapTability: Critical & Creative Thinking
Notes to Teachers These activities are designed to be relatively open ended. Although the procedures seem to be set, they are not. Some dimensions have been given and others have been purposely omitted. For example, sizes of screws, nuts and bolts must be determined by students during the planning stage of their project. Some materials have alternates and some steps have been shortened to give students more latitude in their designs. Remember, the object is to use these instructions as general guidelines, and for students to develop their own designs.
1. Go to the following website to learn to design and construct a rain gauge, barometer, anemometer, psychrometer, and wind vane. The materials used are very basic and easy to use. The measurements are American and will need conversion. 2. You can either create and construct these designs yourself or as a team.
