This activity is to encourage your students to take notes effectively in class. You need to be familiar with the Cornell Notes Method.

If students are unfamiliar with the Cornell note-taking method, it is important to model this with them. Give students the important components needed to summarize for example a short story. It would be good to learn these components: plot, characters, setting, theme, etc. before hand so students can easily follow along.

Once students are familiar with the needed elements, read a short story and fill in Cornell notes together.

For this lesson, you are to read out loud in your normal reading style the following passage from a blog - What is Wool Classing while your students are to take notes using the Cornell Notes Method. You will need to show your students how to divide their physical notebooks (not iPads or Notepad) into 3 sections as shown in the Method.

Students divide up their notebooks/page into 3 as shown below.

They are to write up notes as they listen to you read.

This method is to teach students how to take and review their classroom notes (for everything).

1. Form into pairs.

2. Divide your note paper into 3 sections similar to the image below.

3. Listen and write notes as your teacher reads out "What is Wool Classing".

3. As pairs, work to fill in the Cornell notes sheet - the Cue Column together. This area is small points.

4. Your teacher will go over the notes as a class. together

5. Individually, write up a summary.

Continue to do this type of Note-taking whenever you have to take notes in class.
