Teachers this is a way to introduce or consolidate Note-taking and Analysis. You are to separate the class into two sections. One section to use PMI and the other half to use Cornell Note-taking Method. In the end, they are to compare methods.
1. Individual students are to read the following article and use one of the two techniques - the Cornell Note-taking Method OR Plus, Minus & Interesting - to analyse the article depending on which method you have been allocated by your teacher.
a. Use the Cornell Note-taking Method to get to the main points, the questions you might have and your summary of the article. The Cornell Note-taking Method is found here. Draw up your notebook page as shown on the Cornell Note-taking Method page examples.
b. Use Plus, Minus & Interesting - to mind map the information contained within the article. PMI strategy is found here. Draw up your notebook page as shown on the PMI Strategy page examples.

3. Write up your notes by hand. If you want to know why you need to write up by hand, look at the following article: Note-taking by hand: a powerful tool to support memory
4. Re-read the article. Was there anything that you missed?
5. In pairs [one student from each strategy], compare notes. Discuss with each other the different methods of note-taking.
Brainstorm together what questions you think need answering. Present your questions to the class.
7. As a class, collate the similar questions. Choose the group of questions that are the most popular and discuss.

2. Re-read the article but this time create a timeline. This timeline is
to be colourful and full of icons. a. the surgical process from start to finish b. the different teams and their responsibilities c. the qualifications of each team d. any other interesting information
