Your "WOW" campaign? (some ideas from Samantha Thompson ACU Education Student) Primary Middle Secondary Australian Curriculum General Capability: Literacy Australian Curriculum General Capability: Critical and creative thinking
1. The SES is a volunteer organisation relying of the people of the community to help in times of events and disasters. Volunteers give up their free time to help their communities. They train at least once a week as well as responding when there is a disaster. Wear Orange Wednesday [WOW] is one way that the community can show their thanks and support for the SES Officers. 2. You are to develop an event at your school for WOW Day. In groups of 4 - 5, work out a new idea to engage all the students at your school to donate to the SES in your state or territory. 3. Pool the ideas of the other groups - which ideas are most practical to engage the students (and their parents) to become involved in donating? Which day are you going to have as your WOW Day. 4. Discuss your ideas with the Principal and reach agreement. One student is to be the Commander on the Day and liaise with the Principal and teachers. 5. Have one student be the photographer and submit your photos to the SES in your State or Territory.

With your partner, discuss why you think the research shows "that many people simply ignore warnings and road closure signs." Join with another pair of students to discuss. 4. As a group of four, you are to
come up with a strategy "to inspire behavioural change in the community."
What will be your strategy to inspire behavioural change in the community? How will you use social media to help this change? 5. Present your strategy to the local SES group and the school community.
