Scenario: You are a consumer appliance designer and have been hired by a major home appliance company to design their new and upcoming appliance. They want to launch this new applicance with the release of a new implement that will come with the appliance.

They are asking your team of four to design a kitchen appliance which heats and cools any food product and a small new kitchen implement to open lids for people with a disability with their hands.

First you will need to brainstorm what is needed to be included in this appliance or implement to meet the clients needs. For example, you will need some type of buttons so the user is able to choose which cooling or heating they need.

1. In a team of four, choose one of the following designers you would like to be:

- Consumer Appliance Designer, (has the lead and the other designers will need to work with their product)
- Implement Designer,
- Sustainable Design Consultant, or,
- Transport Designer.

2. You will need to brainstorm before you begin designing your prototypes. You will need to consider:
- How the appliance and implement will be powered

- What they will look like - complimentary colours?
- How they will be used - their functionality
- What will be used to heat and cool the food e.g. ice, gas etc

3. You will now need to draw a design of your prototypes. Ensuring that you label each different part.

4. Next you will need to write basic instructions for the company and vendors, on how to use each product.

5. You are required to build the prototype using materials from around the classroom or brought from home.

6. The company director is coming to view your products. You will required to explain to the director your prototypes and how they will work. This is the Elevator Pitch!
