1. Working with a partner you are required to create a set of clues to find an object or a person that is somewhere in the room or outside.

Some of the clues you might like to give are:
- What the object looks like
- How big the object is
- What the object is near
- What direction it is in
- What it may be situated near

2. Take it in turns to try and solve the clues of your partner; see who can solve the other persons puzzle in the least amount of guesses.

3. Once you have found the item you need to draw a map using grid paper to accurately show the position of where the hidden object was found.

1. Go to the How Stuff Works website: How Private Investigators Work Reading

How Private Investigators Work

"Thanks to books, movies and TV shows, many people have a clear mental image of the stereotypical private investigator. He works from a dimly-lit, cluttered, sometimes smoky office in a less-than-affluent part of town. There, he greets a series of walk-in clients -- often women -- who have been wronged in one way or another.

Usually, his job is either to find proof of wrongdoing or to make the situation right again. To do this, he gets useful information from witnesses and bystanders, sometimes with the help of false pretenses and fake identification. He tails witnesses, takes pictures, searches buildings and keeps an eye out for clues that others may have overlooked. Occasionally, his curiosity gets him into trouble, and he barely escapes being caught somewhere he isn't supposed to be. But eventually, he returns to his distressed client, letting her know that he's solved the case.

Lots of fictional detectives have contributed to this image, including Sherlock Holmes, Philip Marlowe and multiple film noir heroes from the 1940s and 50s. Today's pop-culture investigators, like Adrian Monk and Veronica Mars, are often a little quirkier than their older counterparts. They don't necessarily wear fedoras, work in questionable neighborhoods or even call themselves private investigators. However, they still appear as heroes who have a knack for digging up the right information at the right time.

2. Go to: Eyes on Spies and read the article Reading

How far can a PI go

3. Using the information from these two articles, you are to create a short story based on your fictional PI but you are to be as true to the profession as possible. There is to be nothing illegal or even questionable about the practices of your fictional character.

4. However, you are going to create this short story with other members of a group of 4 - 5 students. Each student is to write the Introduction. Then after 10 minutes, you pass your story onto the next student - however, you will fold over your introduction so they can't see it. The next student's job is to write the body of the short story. After 10 minutes, the process is repeated until all students have written an Introduction, Body, Reflection and Finale and the original piece of paper is back to the original student.

5. Open up your short story and read it. Share with the rest of the group. How funny is the story?
