Cleaning the Cinema or Theatre is like cleaning .....

Cooperative Learning Activity

1. You are to create groups of 4 - 5 students. Select one student to be the Cinema or Theatre Manager in each group and the rest are to be Ushers.

2. Your teacher is to select a school classroom to be cleaned and to be the overall judge of which team cleaned the best.

Your selected "Cinema or Theatre Manager" is to view the classroom to be cleaned and allocate each usher to a particular area or job.

As cinemas or theatres need to be cleaned quickly, the selected "Cinema or Theatre Manager" is to also be the time keeper and record how quickly the total job took. They are also to record the conditions before and after the clean by photographing the classroom.

3. Each "usher" is to clean their area. They might need buckets and cleaning equipment or just a vacuum.

4. Each "usher" will be awarded stars on the following criteria:

Criteria	Number of Stars
Time taken to clean area
Use of equipment (amount of cleaner etc)
Rubbish Pickup
Cleanliness standard of area
Order in area
Other (helping others to achieve their criteria - team player; all areas rubbish out; maintain friendly spirit)

5. How did you feel in your role? How did you feel about the others in your team - did they pull their weight?

6. Go back the next day and do the job again. What message(s) would you like to share with the classroom you cleaned?

Does this job apply to your bedroom at home? What ideas would you put in place to keep your bedroom neat and tidy?

1. As a group of 4 - 5 students, you are to read the following article from The Conversation 17 January 2014 Reading

2. Write up the most interesting facts and figures from the article and create an infograph (this page gives you a range to use) of the statistics and information described here.

3. Are the statistics right for now - present day? You are to survey your class and families about their cinema, streaming platforms, DVDs, paid viewing, free to air TV viewing as well as platforms like iView; SBS on demand; 7Plus etc over a two week period.

Ask about their Australian film content compared to their other content. What is the ratio? What is the percentage of time they watch Australian films?

4. What are the Australian films watched by you and your family this year? List them. Compare them in your group.

5. Is there any iconic Australian films that your family is happy to watch over and over? List them and compare your list with those of your group. Why does your family like these films? Are there any common criteria that your group can show which applies to this list of films?

6. How many of the films your family as seen had Aboriginal and Torres Islander content? How positive, historically accurate, and engaging were these films? Would you like to see more of them? Why? Why not?

Cooperative Learning Activity

1. Why do we go to the cinema? Is our going to the cinema shaped by the desire to see the film, the price, or timing? These criterion are the essential questions in this activity.

2. As a group of 4 - 5 students, read the following article from The Conversation 7 February 2017. Reading What did you learn? Was there any interesting facts that intrigued you? Discuss as a group.

3. Have any of you heard of the apps talked about in this article? Would you use these apps? What would help you to decide to attend the cinema instead of waiting for the film to come to TV?

4. Research. Go to your local cinema and find out if they are going to use any of these apps. Why? Why not? Find out the timeframe for adopting these apps.

Does the Cinema Manager think there will be any opposition [from higher management or the public] to the introduction of these apps? Are there any ethical reasons for the introduction of these apps?
