Cooperative LearningCooperative Learning Activity

1. You and your partner are going to become experts in a particular technology program and teach it to another class.

2. Investigate the website Top Tools for Learning [the content changes each September after voting by teachers occurs for the top tools].

Top Tools for Learning

Together work out which Top Tool you are going to become an expert in. Make sure it is a new tool that you don't know anything about!

Go to the program or tool and start learning all about it.

3. Work out together what you are going to be called so that when you introduce yourselves to the class you are teaching [including the teacher] they will know immediately the tool you are going to teach them. You will then be known by this new name eg. if you are teaching Kahoot you might be known as the "Kahoot Krew"!

4. Work out how you are going to teach a class or part of a class.

Will you write up easy instructions so everyone understands?
Will you create a Prezi or PPT to show the students and teachers visually what they have to do and how to use the program in their work?

5. Evaluation & Reflection. How will you know that the class totally understands the new tool - give them a test or maybe get them to create something with this new tool?

How well do you think you went as teachers and as a team?

Students

1. In this activity, you are going to learn about Cyber Security and the breeches that occurred in 2022 [and beyond].

Form groups of 5 students. This group is called the "Home Group". Divide up the stimulus reading material - one article per student. There can be no repeats.

2. All the students with a particular stimulus article form the "Expert Group".

Firstly, summarise your article. This summary should be a paragraph in length.

As an expert group you will discuss the stimulus material using your summary and by answering the following questions:

a. List 5 things that you found interesting. Why? Give reasons.

b. What detail would you give to your parents/guardians? Write up dot points - at least 5.

c. What advice would you give to grandparents or an elderly person? Write up dot points - at least 5.

d. As an expert group, how would you present your information to your home group?

Jigsaw

3. Go to your home group. Provide a report from what you learnt from the Expert Group. This should be 3 minutes/person.

4. As the other students are speaking, start jotting down interesting points.

5. As a whole "Home Group" discuss what you have learnt.
