1. Read the following "A Day in the Life of an Animal Control Officer" Reading

2. Create a timeline for Shirley's day - a full 24 hours. You are to add drawings or images on each of the events.

3. You are the owner of one of the dogs that Shirley has found for you. You are to write a letter thanking her for looking after your dog and returning it to your family. You are to describe how you feel, what happens to your dog, and, what you do to make your place secure from your dog digging under the fence and getting out.

1. In groups of 3 - 4 students, look at the following video clip from a 1955 movie: "Lady and the Tramp".  Video

Write down your impressions of the characters involved. Make a list of all the characters and put one adjective next to each character. You need to use a different adjective for each character.

2. As a group, write down as many words as you can to describe the Dogcatcher [now called the Animal Control Officer] and the feelings around this person.

What "colour" comes to mind when you descbribe the Dogcatcher?

What "smell" would you attribute to the Dogcatcher?

What "taste" do you think would describe the Dogcatcher? [eg. burnt broccoli]

What "sound" do you think you would use to describe the Dogcatcher?

As a pair, you are to read the above article. List the reasons why local governments has animal management as a priority.

2. Are you a dog or cat owner?
a. Is your dog or cat a "menance" to the neighbourhood? How? Explain
b. Has your dog or cat been taken to the pound?
c. Have neighbours complained about the noise?
d. Have neighbours found your dog or cat wandering in the neighbourhood?
