Environments - LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTDesign a Mini Golf Course Middle Secondary Australian Curriculum General Capability: Numeracy Australian Curriculum General Capability: Critical and creative thinking
1. Using websites provided (below), you are to construct a blueprint of your themed mini-golf course. Each hole should include a grassed area.
2. First create a name and identify a theme for your mini-golf. 3. Draw up an aerial view of your course. 4. Pick one hole to draw in detail from the top and side. You should pay explicit detail to the grassed area, slope and maintenance. Specify the angles needed on which sections of the grass and the length and height of the hole and obstacles. 5. Create a to-scale blueprint of the chosen hole with all measurements and angles needed.
6. Share your mini-golf course with other members of your class explaining your reasoning for your design.
Australian Public Pools...their social history Middle Secondary Australian Curriculum General Capability: Personal and social capability Australian Curriculum General Capability: Ethical Understanding Australian Curriculum Cross Curriculum Priorities: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures Cooperative Learning Activity
1. Do you go to public pools? In groups of 4 - 5 students, you are to investigate the social history of Public Pools in Australia. Read the following article from The Conversation 5 September 2017 and list the social changes over history of the public pool.
2. As an extension, listen to the following:
"There's more to the story of the swimming pool than just being a
luxury in Australian backyards - it also plays an important role in
the social history of this country. The Creative Director for "The
Pool," at the Venice biennale, Michelle Tabet joins Rod Quinn to
discuss the history and culture of Australia's swimming pools."
3. Go to Charles Perkins webpage on this website to learn more about the Freedom Ride. What struck you most about this 1965 protest in Australia?
Discuss as a group the ethics of this stance. 4. Draw an Australian public pool picture of a current pool and in a mural show the social changes that have taken place over the past 100 years. Are there still any taboos around public swimming pools? 5. If you were a Swimming Pool Designer for an Australian Public Pool what inclusions/designs would you make sure to include to help inclusiveness, social justice and equality?
