Learning Activity
1. Have you heard of Silo Art? It
all started to help different regional towns attract visitors to their town. Have a look at some of the silo
art around different States of Australia -
Australian Silo Art
Trail
2. View this video of Australian
artist, Kyle Torney and his creation of "Hope" for the Grain Silo at St
Arnaud.
Australian Painted Grain Silo Art Trail - St Arnaud,
Victoria, Australia
3. In the
Australian Silo Art
Trail, there is an application to have particular Silo Art within a
calendar each year to support the communities portrayed. As a group of 3 - 4 students, look at
all the silo art provided and nominate 5 that you all like the most. As you reach consensus, remember to
answer the question "Why do we like this silo art? Give reasons. " 4. Where do you live? How would you
describe where you live? Think of 3 words. 5 You are going to create an image about
the important things from the place you live. This image is to be on A3 size
paper. As a class group, collect all your
images - photo graph them as your inspiration for an artist in your
community. Would your community benefit from a
large Silo Art or Water Tower to encourage visitors to your community? If
you live in a suburb, would your school attract attention to itself with a
large mural?
Discuss a proposition.
