1. You can do this activity by yourself or in a group of 3-4 students. Read the following article from ABC Life: "What you need to know before getting pet insurance" 14 May 2019 Reading

2. Split up the reading if you are in a group to the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. List the interesting facts and figures about pet insurance from the article from each section. Don't forget to look at the key notes as well as the story.

3. If you have a pet, find out if it is insured. How much does it cost per month? Work out the cost over the period of your pet's life. Have you ever claimed on insurance? Re-calculate the cost to you and your family if you have claimed insurance.

4. Select one story from the article on one person's pet insurance experience. Can you relate to this experience? Expand on the story by putting yourself in the story as either: the owner, the vet or the animal.

5. Look at your own pet insurance policy [if you can] and now look at all the questions at the bottom of this article: "Questions to ask yourself". Can you answer all the questions here about your own pet's insurance?

6. Discussion

As a group, and, then as a class, discuss the idea of "Pet Insurance - always or are there exceptions?"
